If a stock item has been customised, altered or sourced specifically for you it does not constitute a regular stock item. Most furniture pieces can be made to your specifications based on designs shown on our website/catalogue. Please note that additional charges are always applicable.

Wood types

Solid Oak (Quercus)

The name "white oak" encompasses numerous species, eight of which are commercially available as timber. Very similar in appearance and colour to the European oak, American white oak has light-coloured sapwood and a light to dark brown heartwood. White oak is mostly straight grained with a medium to coarse texture, with longer rays and more figure than American red oak. It has large distinctive growth rings, and some medullary rays may be present. American white oak is a hardwood common throughout the eastern United States.

Being more expensive than most other woods, these wood furniture will last for decades. The teak timber is brown with irregular reddish streaks. It is also softer and lighter in weight. The sapwood, which is rather wide, is oatmeal in colour; the grain is straight to interlock, and the texture is medium. The trees occur mainly in the savannah forests throughout Tanzania, Zambia, Angola, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
